Primarily the Commission focussed on literary and philological projects in the field of Classical Arabic but also supplied the framework for other research areas in Semitic studies.
This is also reflected by the extensive reference library as well as the scientific legacy of the former Commission Chairman Anton Spitaler, providing an ideal foundation for further research.
The Dictionary of the Classical Arabic Language is published by the Deutsche Morgenländische Gesellschaft (DMG).
The thesaurus-like recording and codification of the Classical Arabic vocabulary from pre-Islamic time until the early Islamic Middle Ages was funded by the Commission.
Furthermore, the Commission participated in the inter-academic large-scale project “Katalogisierung der orientalischen Handschriften in Deutschland, KOHD” (Cataloguing Oriental Manuscripts in Germany). It is entrusted with the task to catalogue the Arabic manuscripts in the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek (Bavarian State Library).
So far two volumes have been published with descriptions of the manuscripts Cod.arab. 2131–2552f in 2010 and 2014, developed by the Commission’s scientific employee.
